Gynecomastia and lipomastia are conditions characterized by enlarged breasts in men.

Lipomastia (pseudogynecomastia):

This condition occurs in cases of severe obesity and is caused by an increased accumulation of fatty tissue in the breast area. In this case, the large breasts appear proportionate to the rest of the body. Lipomastia can be successfully treated through exercise and dietary changes. However, if desired, it can also be treated with a simple liposuction procedure.

Gynecomastia:

It can also occur in men with an athletic build or who are not overweight. In this case, it is an enlargement of the mammary gland caused by hormonal imbalances. Mammary gland growth in men can occur on one side or both sides. In fact, severe gynecomastia looks somewhat like female breasts and often drives those affected to despair. Men find the enlarged, soft breasts unattractive—and their self-confidence suffers greatly as a result.

Most men with gynecomastia first try exercise or dieting. The problem is that these methods are only of limited help. In fact, cosmetic surgery is the only real solution. The procedure consists of two parts: a combination of liposuction and the removal of glandular tissue.

Gynecomastia Treatment: How Is Male Breast Reduction Performed?

First, as with any other plastic surgery procedure, a detailed consultation takes place. Our surgeon, Karen Towmasjan, explains the relatively simple surgical procedure to the patient and provides information about postoperative care.

During the surgery, excess fat in the breast area is first removed by liposuction. Then, a small incision is made in the nipple, and the mammary gland is completely removed through it. The procedure usually takes about 1.5 hours.
