What is hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis is pathological, excessive sweating. It is caused by overactive sweat glands, the cause of which remains unclear. People who suffer from hyperhidrosis quickly develop sweaty hands and feet, and sweat drips from their armpits, forehead, and scalp. This doesn’t necessarily require excessive exertion, nervousness, or particularly hot weather. Sometimes even a very minor trigger is enough to set off heavy sweating. The severe symptoms of hyperhidrosis take a heavy toll on those affected: they withdraw from social situations and, in the worst cases, develop social anxiety or depressive moods.

Treating Hyperhidrosis with Botox

If a doctor has diagnosed „hyperhidrosis,“ we can stop the excessive sweating with Botox (botulinum toxin). Here’s how it works: We inject Botox at intervals of one square centimeter into the sweat glands—that is, into areas that are particularly affected. As is well known, botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin; it blocks the transmission of signals at the nerve endings, thereby reducing sweat production. The full effect is achieved after 7–14 days. You can once again wear form-fitting clothing, participate in social activities, and go about your daily life with confidence. The procedure must be repeated after about half a year.

Hyperhidrosis Testing and Diagnosis

• You need to change your clothes and shoes several times a day.
• They avoid social interactions or uncomfortable situations.
• The sweating episodes do not occur at night while sleeping.
