Tubular Breast Problem: Having Surgery Performed in Berlin

Tubular breasts are also known as “tube breasts” or “trunk-shaped breasts.” This term stems from their tubular shape and the fact that they usually hang down. At our aesthetic medicine practice in Berlin, we can correct this problem, which causes significant emotional distress for the women affected.

What distinguishes a tubular breast from a typical „sagging breast“?

Unlike sagging breasts, tubular breasts are a congenital malformation. The following characteristics are indicative of tubular breasts:

  • The lower half of the breast is underdeveloped
  • The areola appears oversized and swollen
  • The base of the breast is very narrow, and the inframammary fold is too high.
  • The breast is shaped like a tube.
  • There may be significant asymmetry between the two breasts
  • The ability to breastfeed is often limited

For many women, breast deformities cause immense psychological distress and emotional strain, which can even lead to depression. This is a problem that should not be underestimated, but it is one that can be resolved—thanks to breast surgery.

Plastic Surgery for Tubular Breasts: How Is It Performed?

That certainly depends on each individual case. Sometimes we combine different treatment methods. In most cases, however, an incision is made around the nipple, the deformed glandular tissue is reshaped, the nipple is corrected, and a suitable breast implant is inserted. If necessary, autologous fat is used (for minor corrections).

After the surgery, take it easy for 3–6 days; you’ll wear a custom-fit compression bra for 4–6 weeks. Our surgeon, Karen Towmasjan, insists on several follow-up appointments at regular intervals to ensure that everything heals properly and that you’re completely satisfied with the results. By the way: You’ll start to see the final results as early as 4–6 weeks, once the swelling has subsided and your breasts already look much more natural.
