Getting Ear Correction Surgery in Berlin

Short hair, updos, or earrings are an unattainable dream for you: People with very large, asymmetrical, or protruding ears often feel insecure or have inferiority complexes. The good news is: Even a minor procedure is enough to solve all these problems! Ear correction is a straightforward procedure performed under local anesthesia that leads to a new, better quality of life.

Ear Correction for Children: Starting as Early as Preschool Age

Children and adolescents with „protruding ears“ or other deformities of the outer ear, in particular, suffer greatly. Unwanted attention and teasing can, in the worst cases, lead to psychological distress. Fortunately, ear correction surgery can be performed as early as preschool age: Cartilage growth is complete by age 4. This means that young patients as young as 6 years old can undergo surgery.

Traditional Ear Correction vs. Ear Correction Using the Suture Method

At our aesthetic and plastic surgery practice in Berlin, we use both methods of ear correction. Patients are placed under a form of twilight sedation, and the area to be treated is numbed with a local anesthetic. In traditional surgical ear correction, the procedure involves working on the ear cartilage. Accordingly, an incision is made behind the outer ear and sutured at the end of the procedure. No visible scars remain. Patients can go home just a few hours after the procedure and must wear a special bandage for about 8 days. Afterward, the stitches are removed, and it is recommended to wear a headband for another 6 weeks until everything has healed properly.

For non-surgical ear correction, we use the thread method. This is a particularly gentle technique that involves virtually no incisions. We place special sutures that are threaded under the skin—this allows us to reposition the outer ear. You can leave the office immediately after this procedure. The bandage can be removed after just 2 days and is replaced with a headband.

Our surgeon will work with you to determine which method is right for you during a consultation. You’re welcome to participate in an online consultation. That way, you won’t have to come to the office in person; instead, you can ask the surgeon your questions via video chat and schedule your appointments as needed. Stay healthy!
