Breast implants are classified by shape and filling material.

• Breast Implant Shape: There are round and anatomical implants (teardrop shape) for breast augmentation. A distinction is also made between low projection (= thickness), medium, high, and extra-high projection.
• Breast Implant Filling: The Silicone Cohesive Gel With its jelly-like consistency, it feels very natural and poses little risk of leaking. The sterile saline solution is a filler that is also safe for your health. However, this type of breast implant filler is now outdated and is rarely used today. In the case of Dual-chamber pillow Silicone gel and saline solution are combined to make the most of the benefits of these two fillers.

Your surgeon will determine which type of breast implant is best suited to your body during a special examination.

When do breast implants slip down?

With breast augmentation, it takes a while after the procedure for the breasts to „settle.“ This means that the new breasts may look a little unnatural at first. It usually takes several months for the implants to look natural.

How often do breast implants need to be replaced?

New-Generation Breast Implants no longer need to be replaced. They are of such high quality that, in theory, they can remain in the body for a lifetime—unless individual symptoms arise that make replacement necessary.

Is it possible to breastfeed after breast augmentation?

Yes. During breast augmentation, the mammary glands remain intact. This means that you’ll be able to breastfeed your baby normally even after the surgery. In any case—whether with or without implants—you should make sure to have your breasts examined regularly by your gynecologist.

Can breast implants be rejected by the body?

As with any implant, a foreign body reaction can theoretically occur with breast implants as well. In the worst-case scenario, this leads to capsular contracture, resulting in hardening, deformation, and pain around the implant. However, this is rather rare. According to the German Society for Aesthetic and Plastic Surgery, the incidence of capsular contracture following breast augmentation with new-generation implants is now only about 6–10 %. The breast implants we use in our practice have an even lower rate: a 1–3 % probability of capsular contracture.

Is it okay to go jogging with breast implants?

Jogging, flying, scuba diving—anything is possible with breast implants. About 6–8 weeks after breast augmentation surgery, you can resume exercising. And flying is no longer off-limits either.
